Grounding the Spirit and honoring the Body after Birth
What is Belly Binding?
Belly binding is an ancient postpartum ritual practiced across many cultures to support a woman’s transition after birth. Beyond physical support, it is a ceremony of closing…offering containment, protection, and grounding after the profound openness of labor. Through warmth and gentle holding, belly binding helps a woman integrate the birth experience, return to herself, and feel supported as she settles into the early postpartum period.
There are many different types of belly Binding across the world such as Faja, Rebozo and BengKung. I use the Ayurvedic version of belly binding which uses a long, soft cloth to gently and firmly wrap the entire abdominal region.
